Sweet Cabin Life

MEET OUR NEW BABY

Meet our new baby!

I looked out the window and saw this proud mom leading her young fawn down the driveway. She held her head high, sniffing the air for any sign of danger while her fawn danced round.

This was the first time she had brought her new baby out in the open for us to see and we were very excited to watch them interact. The doe looked very thin from nursing and she quickly gobbled up three piles of corn while her baby held close by her side.

The doe was one of our fawns two seasons ago and this was her first baby. Next year she will probably have twins. She will come everyday now that her baby is getting older and stronger. She will eat the corn to help give her strength as the stress of nursing a growing fawn takes more of a toll on her body.

We had three does pregnant this year but this was the first one to bring her baby down for us to meet. We know that one doe did have twins because we have seen brief glimpses of her with her twins down by the tree line along the creek. It will be several more weeks before she brings them close to the cabin to eat the corn. With two babies to watch she will be much more cautious than a doe with just one baby to herd to safety should danger arise. We have yet to see the third doe but this will be her first baby so we expect just one fawn to be with her when she does come down.

It is so exciting to watch the new fawns as they grow into adulthood and bring forth the next generation for us to meet. We love to watch them romp in the fields, stand silhouetted against the sky at dusk and dance around their moms in the noonday sunlight. It is all scenes we never tire of.

We are truly blessed to live in this cabin, on this land, in this valley surrounded by trees and bordered by our creek where the eagles fly and the deer run free. We love this Sweet Cabin Life!
